Maritime Academy Puts Local Students On
Dean's List
August 30, 2010

Buzzards Bay, Mass.
- Massachusetts Maritime Academy recently named
three local students to the Dean's List during
the spring 2010 semester.
They are Jarad Horey, of
Ledyard, Gilbert Leuze, of New London, and Tyler
Bates, of Old Saybrook. All three maintained a
grade point average between 3.3 and 3.5 during
the last semester to achieve this high academic
honor.

Two Complete Military Training
August 30, 2010

Electronics Technician Third
Class Anthony S. Taylor graduated from Naval
Nuclear Power School training at Goosecreek,
S.C., as an electronics technician. He is the
son of George and Vanessa Taylor, of Moosup, and
a 2008 graduate of Plainfield High School.
Air Force Airman Chelsea K.
Sagen graduated from basic training at Lackland
Air Force Base in San Antonio. Sagen, the
daughter of Lisa and John Gadrow of East Lyme,
is a 2007 graduate of Norwich Free Academy.

President Nominates New Commander Of Sub
Force
August 30, 2010

The president has nominated Navy
Rear Adm. John M. Richardson to become the next
commander of the Submarine Force.
Richardson would also be
promoted to the rank of vice admiral, according
to a Defense Department release today. He is
currently serving as the director for Naval
Forces Europe-Africa, Operations and
Intelligence, and the deputy commander for the
U.S. 6th Fleet.
Vice Adm. John J. Donnelly, a
Groton native, is the current commander of the
Submarine Force. He said during a July visit to
the Naval Submarine Base in Groton that he plans
to retire after his change of command this fall,
with 35 years of commissioned service.
Richardson would need to be
confirmed by the U.S. Senate.
